Energy Reuse from Concentrator
Photovoltaics for Desalination
Reclaiming drinkable water while reusing waste energy
This project’s objective seeks to develop a combined thermal-electrical desalination system which is not only solar-powered but recovers waste heat. The reuse of thermal waste energy will allow for increased overall system efficiency. Such a system would employ concentrator photovoltaics (CPVs), solar cells which employ reflecting mirrors to maximize the amount of energy captured by a single cell.

Accomplishment:

  • A test setup for characterization of photovoltaic output and energy recovery was built, tested and is fully functional.
